Quietly Loud, 2018, sound installation, chipboard, stainless steel bars, loudspeaker, straws, insulating sponge, 200 × 80 × 80 cm
The work Quietly Loud is based on the perception of listening to the retelling stories about life and work women through generations (their personal memory and experience). We have been listening to their voices all our lives, but do we really heard them? In front of the observer of the work there is a wooden minimalist hexagonal prism. Since the sound is transmitted through vibrations between metal, when a person bites and presses the ears, the vibrations of sound passes through the bones to the central ear and the center of the brain. The person “hears” the sound through his/her bones. With my desire to listen with the whole body, I wanted to present how our implanted opinions and stereotypes are transmitted to the next generation. With this action I wanted to remind of the traditional family narration of the experiences of our old women, mothers, grandmothers whose voices are no longer with us. I recorded the talk between my grandmother and me. The talk is about the notion of purity and its application, also we talk about the change in the context of a time that indicates the development of society, cultural and social phenomena, but also the role of women as active factors of purity, all the way to passive consumers and vice versa. Also there are two traditional songs that are played along with the talk. They are from Croatian folklore.
